Project Goal: On the road from Russia to Western Europe, Poland is the transit corridor for natural gas. Not having its own gas deposits, Poland came to the conclusion that during periods of low demand for natural gas (summer), it would be logical to have a stored surplus of gas to deal with peak demand during the fall and winter. For the Polish Oil and Gas Company, BSI Industries, Inc. developed a preliminary design for the construction of the underground gas storage as well as documentation for announcing a tender under the aegis of the World Bank. The construction of the facility required a large investment provided by the World Bank. The facility became a major factor in the integration of the Polish gas system and that of the European Union.
